  • Lunch in local restaurant
  • The Temple of The Emerald Buddha shares the grounds of The Grand Palace and was built by King Rama I, the founder of Bangkok, as a monument to his reign.
  • Behind the breathtaking, opulent buildings and courtyards lies a fascinating history, which will be revealed by your knowledgeable our guide.
  • Dinner on your own.
  • Overnight in Bangkok.

Day 3: Bangkok - Siem Reap - Angkor Temples (B;L)

  • After breakfast you’ll be escorted to the airport by your Backyard Travel guide in time to catch your onward one–hour flight to Siem Reap where you’ll be met by another expert local guide who will lead you to your hotel for check-in.
  • This charming Cambodian city is the perfect gateway to discovering the ancient temples of Angkor, the countries spiritual home and the most significant site of Khmer architecture in the world.
  • Lunch in local restaurant.
  • In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to visit one of the earliest Angkor temples approximately 15km outside Siem Reap.
  • The site is the center of an old Khmer civilization called Hariharalaya and was built by Angkorian kings as far back as the 8th century. The three main temples of the town are Bakong, Lolei and Preah Ko and the scenic countryside that surrounds them gives you the perfect glimpse at the typical landscapes of Cambodia.
  • You’ll take a cow cart ride around the area to discover paddy fields and friendly locals as you move on to the village pagoda where you will be blessed by a local monk to grant you good fortune for your journey.
  • Your guide will then escort you back to your hotel in Siem Reap and you’ll be free to enjoy your evening at your own leisure.
  • Dinner on your own.
  • Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 4: Siem Reap - Angkor Wat (B;L)

  • After breakfast this morning your expert local guide will collect you from your hotel and take you to discover the delicate and unique red sandstone temple of Banteay Srey, a 10th century structure dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. The temple is one of the best preserved temples in Cambodia and is renowned for its elaborate and decorative wall carvings and is a fine example of classical Khmer art.
  • Dinner on your own.
  • On your return journey to Siem Reap your guide will take you to visit some local villages so that you can interact with and better understand the lives of locals.
  • You’ll also have the chance to see how rice paper is made and taste the local specialties palm wine and palm sugar, as well as catch a glimpse of Banteay Samre, a Hindu temple built in the early 12th century.
  • In the afternoon you will be chauffeured by moto dop (an unusual and fun mode of transport!) to the majestic and legendary Angkor Wat.
  • Built in the 12th century during the reign of King Suryavarman II, the temple was constructed to symbolize Mount Meru, a sacred mountain in Buddhism considered to be the center of all physical, metaphysical and spiritual universes. The temple itself is covered with stone carvings and has more than 2,000 Apsara dancers decorating the temple. Angkor Wat is so revered by the nation that Cambodia is the only flag in the world with a building on it – and that building is Angkor Wat.
  • Your visit to the iconic structure will end after sunset, allowing you to see the temple at its most beautiful. As dusk arrives and the sun dips down, its soft rays cascading down the temple creating a magical moment.
  • The remainder of your evening may be spent at your leisure. Feel free to ask your guide for a local child-friendly restaurant recommendation.
  • Dinner on your own.
  • Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 5: Siem Reap - Tonle Sap Lake - Departure (B;L)

  • Floating Houseboat, Tonle Sap Lake, Battambang, Siem Reap, Cambodia
  • This morning, after breakfast at your hotel, you will be taken on a 30-minute drive to Tonlé Sap Lake. On arrival, you will take an inspirational boat trip around the vast lake, giving you the opportunity to learn about life on the lake and the symbiosis of the local people with the vast water source. Tonlé Sap is Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake, though its size varies greatly depending on the season, increasing by approximately 400% during the monsoon season.
  • On your tour, you’ll pass floating villages, complete with floating hospitals, floating schools and even a floating basketball court! You’ll take a break for lunch at one of the floating houses and observe life on the lake as it drifts by.
  • Please note: Due to low water levels during the dry season, the boat trip is only possible from June to March. However, if this trip is unavailable, a tour of an alternative floating village (Chong Kneas) can be arranged instead.
  • Lunch in local restaurant.
  • You will then return to Siem Reap and are then free to enjoy the afternoon at your leisure until you are escorted by your guide to the airport for your onward flight.
